Author visit with David Almond, Tuesday, 27 September 2011

On Tuesday, 27 September in conjunction with Bath Festival of Children's Literature and Penguin Books we will welcome David Almond, whose new crossover teen/adult novel 'The True Tale of the Monster Billy Dean' came out this month to much acclaim. David Almond is probably best known for his book 'Skellig', which won both the Carnegie and the Whitbread Book Award. His books have consistently won awards and have been nominated. For example 'The Savage' was short-listed for the Kate Greenaway Book Award in 2009.

He will be speaking to the whole of Year 9 during Lesson 1 about his life and work as well as his new book. Students will have the opportunity to talk to him afterwards. If they wish, students can also purchase a copy of his new book. Cost £12.99. Please note the book is also currently available from Amazon for £7.40. Details HERE.  If they already own a book by David Almond and would like it signed they are welcome to bring it in.

The school library holds a good range of his books. Students can search the library catalogue for our holdings via the website and his books are widely available through Bristol City Libraries.

We do ask that students try and read a 'taster' of the book that is being talked about and at http://www.lovereading4kids.co.uk they have the opportunity to do this. Please be aware that in order to do this you have to create an account.

If you would like to find out more about David Almond you can also go to his website at http://www.davidalmond.com/.
