Bikeability Level 3 Advanced Cycle Training

Redland Green School is able to offer Year 7 students the opportunity to take part in a Bikeability Level 3 Cycle Training Course.  This is a Government supported cycling proficiency scheme designed to give students the skills required to cycle safely on the road.

The training is free of charge and will be delivered by two fully accredited national standard cycle instructors. It comprises five 90-minute sessions which will take place during school hours and involve students missing lessons.  The first three on-road sessions are a shortened version of the level 2 course (delivered at primary school in 4 sessions).  This provides a reminder of the basic skills so that all cyclists can take part with confidence, whatever their starting level.  The individual riding session on the last day will be tailored to suit the skills of each rider and will include traffic lights and roundabouts on busier roads.   Your child will also be taught safe route planning and, if possible, will ride their home-school journey.

In order to take part students MUST:

·         bring a mechanically sound and legally road-worthy bike to all sessions

·         make sure that they bring a suitable bike lock

·         wear a correctly fitted cycle helmet when cycling

·         consider bringing waterproofs if the forecast is poor

We will run a number of courses during this academic year and if you wish your child to join the waiting list for one of these courses please download the  application form from the school website, sign and return to main reception for the attention of Mrs B A Hook. Alternatively your child can request a form from main reception. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. When your child’s name reaches the top of the waiting list you will be contacted with course dates etc.
