Book Week a Great Success!

The week was a great success. The author visit by Bali Rai was a resounding hit with Year 9 and Year 12 students. He challenged students’ perceived ideas of what it means to be an author. He also had a very successful workshop with a group of Year 8 students in which they created storylines for a horror story. Bali Rai said he really enjoyed the experience of coming to Redland Green.

Book Aid International Fundraising

On Thursday, 3 March we had a cake sale in The Vista. Mrs Gabey and Year 10 students had worked really hard to produce some delicious cakes. With the English Department team acting as the sales team all cakes went in 5 minutes and £54.00 was raised for Book Aid International.

On Friday, 4 March staff and students were invited to dress up as their favourite book characters in aid of World Book Day. A large proportion of the school took part and we had some fantastic costumes. Some notable costumes included the Dementor from Harry Potter; a group of Year 10 students who dressed in the style of ‘Where’s Wally’ and a group of Year 11 students who dressed as ‘James Bond’. Staff costumes were equally brilliant with ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’, Skulduggery Pleasant, Thing 1 and Thing 2, Mr Jeremy Fisher and not forgetting The Oompa Loompa!

The total raised on the day for our charity, Book Aid International, was £697. So a big thank you to everyone involved!
