Congratulations to Year 11 Student for achieving Lance Corporal in the Army Cadets

Congratulations to Emma Foster, Year 11 (Ducks), who has recently achieved Lance Corporal in the Army Cadet Force (ACF), at the Horfield Territorial Army Centre.

Emma started as a recruit with the ACF over 18 months ago and now goes twice a week on a Monday and a Thursday evening. The Cadets learn various skills ranging from first aid, how to use a map and compass, and skill at arms (loading and unloading rifles and firing riles). They also learn the essential skills of any soldier: 'drill and turnout'. So how to iron their uniform, marching and saluting.

As a Cadet Emma gets involved in the local community and helps with local events. She has helped with the Bristol Half Marathon, at Remembrance Parades, public events and bag packing at Tesco.

Lance Corporal is the first rank of Cadet that you can achieve. Cadets can join the ACF from the age of 12 (Year 8) to 18 years of age. Emma stated that the best things she liked about being part of the Army Cadets was that you get the meet new friends and learn new skills.
