Year 8 Football

On Friday, 27 November two Year 8 girls’ football teams competed in the Bristol schools 6-a-side finals at The Memorial Ground, with the winner going on to represent Bristol Rovers in a South West schools competition. Facing each other in the first game it was a win to RGS A, but it was a fantastic game to watch with both teams exploiting each other’s weaknesses and demonstrating some great skills. Following this, RGS A finished 2nd, losing only to the tournament winners, Abbywood School. RGS B finished in 4th place. A huge well done to all of the players, in particular Mara (Year 7) who looked completely comfortable against all of the Year 8 students! We look forward to a positive and successful season in the schools competition in January!

Netball Club

It has been fantastic to see so many students attending netball club this year and working hard to improve their skills and have fun playing netball. The Year 7-11 netball teams have been competing in the Bristol schools league and all year groups progressed to the quarter finals after either winning or coming runners up in their league. The Year 7, 8 and 9 teams all won their quarter finals and played the semi finals this week with the Year 7 and 9 teams making it through to the Bristol schools finals, with wins over St Bernadettes (Year 7) and Ashton Park (Year 9). The Year 8 team narrowly lost their semi-final by one goal to St Bernadettes. The Year 10 team played against a very good Cotham team in their quarter final and unfortunately lost, and the Year 11 team play Cotham in their quarter final this week. The Bristol schools finals will be held next week and we will update you on the results in the next bulletin.
