ICT Update...Creating Leading Edge ICT Facilities

Creating a leading edge ICT platform to support teaching and learning and enhance student engagement...

Two years ago Redland Green School brought its ICT function in-house, and changed how we provided ICT services and our ICT staffing. We also redesigned our ICT systems and invested considerable funds to ensure the technology our students and staff are using is completely up-to-date. This leading edge ICT infrastructure is enriching the learning experience for students, improving student engagement, while also reducing costs and improving efficiency.

Where we have been investing in RGS's ICT facilities:

On top of this, we have also invested in an e-learning Technician (Mr Lee) who works with departments to develop audio visual and e-learning resources that aid teaching and learning. For example, he has helped create online learning resources and websites that provide students with essential learning information.

In addition, through the use of a small credit-card sized computer called a Raspberry Pi Mr Lee has been working with various departments, including Science, to teach students how to use programming. This has been particularly successful at engaging students who weren't interested in ICT or technology.

For example, one of our students who has been accepted into Cambridge University to study music in October 2013, used the Raspberry Pi to control an organ. So combining ICT with science and music.

The last two years' investment has seen the ICT team bringing the school up to date in terms of its resources and its software. We now have excellent ICT facilities and resources, which is improving engagement with students as well as directly improving their teaching and learning experience.
