Latest Mathematics Success at RGS

Well done to the following students who recently took part in the Intermediate Maths Challenge.

The Intermediate Maths Challenge is for students in Year 9, 10 and 11. Students that do very well in the Challenge are invited to take part in the European Kangaroo competition, which is a collection of even harder multiple-choice questions.  Only about 7000 students take part in the United Kingdom.  The following students qualified for the European Kangaroo:

Alex Warden, Ben Lawes, David Elloway-Smith and Matthew Evans (Year 11).  Joel Bragg, Year 10 and Joseph Penn, Natalie Ruck and Matthew Foale in Year 9.

Students that did exceptionally well in the Intermediate Maths Challenge qualified to take part in the International Mathematical Olympiad.  This is a collection of hard, written questions.  Only about 1600 students in the UK qualify to take part.  The following students qualified:

Matthew Penn (Year 11), Isaac Wood and Dominic Chappell (both Year 9).

These students were awarded a medal, for being in the top 100 in the UK and Isaac Wood has been awarded a book prize for being in the top 50 in the UK.

This is a fantastic achievement. Well done to all the students that entered the Intermediate Maths Challenge.

The Junior Maths Challenge also took place recently and is for Year 7 and 8 students.

Jonny Chappell and Emily Whitaker (Year 7) and Charlie Betts, Oskar Bishop, Lily Bragg, Logan Burns, Nathan Cartlidge and Magnus Cheung (Year 8) did very well and qualified for the Junior Kangaroo. This competition took place this week and we will know the results shortly.
