Mountain Madness for Year 13

Miss Roberts (Teacher of Biology) will be leading thirteen intrepid Year 13 adventurers on an expedition to Nepal, over the Easter 2010 break. On this trip of a lifetime, not only will they be experiencing trekking in the beautiful Himalayas and exploring Kathmandu but they will also be involved in a very important community project.

The 13 intrepid explorers with Miss Roberts

The expedition consists of three main phases:

Trek Phase: The students will spend one week trekking and camping in the beautiful Annapurna region of the Himalayas. They will be exploring villages and monasteries in remote regions and getting close up to the wonderful mountain scenery.

Project Phase: The next week will be spent working at a deprived Nepalese school making worthwhile and sustainable improvements. Education is a priority in Nepal because it is a crucial building block in the country's reconstruction and revitalization. However, thousands of children are deprived of an education because there are not enough schools in Nepal. So this work is really crucial and will really make a difference.

Rest & Relaxation Phase: The final three days of the expedition will see the students enjoy some much needed R&R! They will have a choice of activities to choose from, including a flight over Everest (for those who do not suffer from vertigo!) and an elephant back safari (for those wild at heart!).

The team are totally dedicated to their fundraising and have been working really hard, with some members of the team halfway to raising their target amount already! Please come along & support us at our group fundraising events. The next one is our Barn Dance on Friday, 23 October. Tickets are only £12, which includes a ploughman’s supper, and can be purchased from the main school office.
