Press Release: A Level Results

Congratulations to our A level students on another set of outstanding results!

Redland Green School students at the North Bristol Post 16 Centre celebrated outstanding successes in today’s A-level and AS level results, marking yet another year of excellent academic and personal achievements for students at the school, with an overall pass rate of 99%.

Sarah Baker, Headteacher, said, "We are thrilled with the outstanding success of our students A Levels results, particularly in the STEM subjects of Maths and Science, which reflects our specialism. It has been a busy morning and we are pleased to see so many of our students achieving their expected places at Oxbridge and a wide range of other Universities. Three students will be taking up their offers of places at Oxford and Cambridge and one will begin a course in medicine. Students also secured top university places such as Bristol, Manchester, Warwick and University College London, amongst others. These results demonstrate that the School is continuously providing high quality education to students in Bristol and the wider Bristol area and more importantly that students feel challenged and supported to achieve their very best.”

In Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Applied Art, English Literature, French, Performing Arts and RE over 30% of students achieved A* or A grades. Mathematics and science represent 1 in 4 of all entries. The results in these subjects were a real strength of the school, reflecting the specialism of Redland Green School.

We want to congratulate all our students and wish them well as they take up their places at university, employment, or begin their gap year. Some of our students were able to overcome really challenging personal circumstances to achieve excellent results. This was partly due to the support and guidance given to them by the school, and due to their hard work so well done to them as well.

Bridget McManamon, is going on to study English Literature at Oxford University. She commented, “I am really pleased with my results. I got an A* in English Literature and 2 As in Biology and Chemistry. I really enjoyed my time at the Redland Green Post 16. The teachers and support staff are great and really encouraged me with my Higher Education choices. Without this support I wouldn’t have considered applying to Oxford. Now I’m so excited to be going!”

The school also saw some excellent AS results this year with twenty students achieving 4 As and seven getting 5 As. Congratulations to our AS students, which includes students that joined us in Year 7, the beginning of the journey for Redland Green School, and we wish them well for their final year at the School.

Redland Green’s Post 16 is a comprehensive sixth form and one of the two learning communities of the North Bristol Post 16 Centre. Students come from a wide range of schools including our partner schools, Cotham, Fairfield, Henbury, Orchard School (formerly Monks Park) and Redland Green. Students from these schools are guaranteed places, however we also welcome applications from the wider Bristol area demonstrating our commitment to developing partnerships and links in Bristol and the wider community. We are in particular looking for students that want to work hard and achieve and exceed their personal best.

For students who are looking to apply to Post 16 for September 2013, our main Open Evening will be on Thursday, 18 October 2012 from 7.00pm to 9.00pm and a subsequent Information Evening is on Wednesday, 7 November 2012 from 7.00pm.
