RGS Celebrated International Women's Day

Last Friday (8 March 2013) saw the fantastic celebration of International Women's Day; a day where throughout the world, women's achievements throughout history are celebrated and where we acknowledge and support women’s equality and advancement.

As we did last year, we invited students, staff and school visitors, both women and men, to "join us on the bridge" at break-time to show their support and celebrate the day with us.

Last year a group of Year 10 girls organised the event to coincide with the international “join me on the bridge” campaign, where men and women gathered on a bridge at a certain time to celebrate the day and unite in taking a stand for peace and women’s equality. This year we did the same with our Year 11 choir who sang in support.

In addition to ‘meeting on the bridge’, throughout the week leading up to International Women’s Day, the school saw badge-making sessions where students and staff were invited to make a badge to wear, which proudly displayed their ‘sheroes’ (an inspirational woman) or a quotation from an inspirational woman. These badges were worn proudly throughout the week.

Well done to the Year 11 choir and thank you to everyone who got involved and celebrated the day with us!
