Rugby: South West Schools Cup

The Year 9 rugby team competed in a South West state schools competition held in Taunton on Wednesday, 5 March. Having previously won the Bristol Schools Cup in January they were selected as the team to go through to the South West finals and represent Bristol. At the tournament they faced the top schools from BANES, Cornwall, Devon, Gloucester and Somerset.

We got off to a great start beating Beechen Cliff 12-7 and playing some fantastic rugby on a very heavy pitch, before narrowly losing 7-5 to eventual winners Churchdown School. We then had two difficult games against much bigger opposition from Ivybridge Academy and King Alfred's School, but this didn't stop us running in tries during both games. Our final match was against Redruth School from Cornwall. The boys were keen to finish the last game of the tournament on a high and they did not disappoint. With the remaining schools watching on we provided an 18-minute master class of rugby and finished with a 36-0 win. This left us ranked as the 4th best state school in the South West for U14 rugby.

Congratulations to everyone involved with the squad this year. It has been an outstanding season.
