Redland Green School meets David Miliband MP

Wednesday, 30 June 2010

Today Redland Green School was visited by the Rt. Hon. David Miliband, MP for South Shields, and the Institute of Public Policy Research, an organisation that seeks to promote social justice, democratic participation and economic and environmental sustainability in Government policy.

Mr Miliband gave a very interesting keynote speech about his passion for education and its role in creating a more equal society to an audience of around 200 people. He also discussed how to use the power of education to transform children's lives and the importance of world class teaching and learning for closing the class gap in educational achievement.

This was one of a series of speeches by senior politicians and leading thinkers to set out their vision of a progressive future for Britain that the Institute of Public Policy Research is hosting in the aftermath of the General Election.

After Mr Miliband had given his speech and answered questions from the audience, he spent time walking around the school meeting students and staff.
