Student Research Council (SRC) Working Hard for Benefit of School on Outside Benches and Seating

Students from the Redland Green School’s Research Council have recently been working on a project to improve the school environment. The Research Council recognised that students would benefit from having more outside benches and seating around the school. Will (Year 9) and Anna (Year 8), as Research Council representatives, researched the benches and picnic tables available and developed a proposal based on the brief and budget they were given. At a Senior Leadership Team meeting Will and Anna then presented their solution, including providing the team with brochures and costs.

The preferred option is to install a series of timber/concrete benches and tables, including a table suitable for wheelchair users and a seating circle for the Peace Garden. Hardwearing and robust designs are preferable, even though they are more expensive to purchase. Benches may need to be fixed to the ground and it was decided it would be better if everything was the same style and make. Will and Anna also liaised with the Premises Team and produced a site map with possible places to site the furniture.

The Senior Leadership Team are delighted with the work the SRC have done, and in particular thought they had been very thorough and presented a good solution for the budget they had been given.

A big thank you also goes to FORGS who generously donated a further sum of money to this project.
