Up Up and Away!

Following success in the RGS internal heat, Rowan, William and Dominic headed to the regional heats of the Flying Start Challenge on Tuesday, 4 February. They presented the glider they built to a panel of structural engineers. This included details on the planning, design and manufacture of their glider. This was followed by a quiz on aerodynamics and engineering.

Before the team were due to fly their glider, they were given some time to plan their strategy, practise the technique and make last minute adjustments, adding weight to the nose and balancing the wings. The designated pilot was Rowan, who flew the glider to victory at a distance of 16.7 meters! Well done boys! First place and off to the national competition! Thank you to Airbus engineering graduates for their help and support with this project.
