Winning Students Attend The People Speak Event in London

Congratulations to Ella and Izzy who entered the HISTORY ‘Our Vision’ competition as part of their Humanities extended home learning and were chosen as two of the six winners. The competition challenged 7-18 year olds to speak out to change issues facing today’s society. Ella's piece (Hooked on Heroin) was also chosen by HISTORY as the overall winner.

As winners they were invited to THE PEOPLE SPEAK event that was being held at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London’s West End on Sunday, 19 September, which was hosted and co-directed by Colin Firth.

The UK production of THE PEOPLE SPEAK brings history to life in a unique and powerful live performance narrated by BAFTA-award winning actor Colin Firth.  The live performance and documentary was co-directed and co-executive produced by Colin Firth and Anthony Arnove, who was co-director and co-executive producer of the U.S. production broadcast on HISTORY™ in 2009.  Conveyed through dramatic readings and musical performances in front of a live audience, THE PEOPLE SPEAK captured the individual voices that have shaped this nation.

“I wrote my poem after reading “Junk” by Melvin Burgess and seeing the stage performance of “Apples”, said Ella, the overall winner.  “The whole day was amazing.  We were filmed reading our poems, the performance was brilliant, we met Colin Firth and at the after show drinks party I spoke with Keira Knightley.”

The performance was also be filmed in HD for a documentary to be broadcast on HISTORY™ on Sunday, 31 October.
