Year 13 Students Fundraising for Vietnamese Adventure

After completing their A2 examinations in July 2011, ten Year 13 students will be going on a four-week adventure to Vietnam and Cambodia.

On this trip of a lifetime, the students will be living and carrying out voluntary work in a deprived Vietnamese community (a floating village in Halong Bay). They will be teaching English to the local school children and helping to improve the local environment the children live in by replacing floats on the floating islands and helping clear up litter in the Bay.

In addition to this important community project, the students will be spending some time trekking in the Sapa region of Northern Vietnam, before heading on a cultural trip South through Vietnam and into Cambodia by bus, boat and rail.

In order for the students to go on the trip the team needs to raise a certain amount of money and as such they are totally dedicated to organising fundraising events. Fundraising activities so far have included cake sales in school, a quiz night, car washing, a car boot sale, collecting clothes for ‘Bags2school’ (a project aimed at recycling clothes and raising money) and running refreshment stalls at school events.

Keep an eye out for us around school in the run up to Christmas selling mince pies and mulled wine! Our next big fundraising event is the Christmas Market on Saturday, 11 December from 11.00am to 3.00pm. Entry is £1 and for under 12s 50p. Other up and coming events we will be organising include a quiz night and a fashion show, dates to be confirmed.

Keep an eye out on the website for further information on the team and our other fundraising events.
