Year 7 Rugby Festival

Congratulations to the Year 7 Boys’ Rugby Team who won the Dings Rugby Festival on Friday, 8 October. The team played some excellent rugby and thoroughly deserved to be crowned champions.

The first group game was played against St Mary Redcliffe. Redland started well and put pressure on their opponents straight away. The boys showed their ability through some nicely worked moves and eventually won the game 6 tries to 0.

The second group game was against Bristol Metropolitan. Again, Redland started well and showed their strength through some great running and support play. Louis was a constant threat on the wing and the passing skills from Joshua and Joseph were proving effective. Redland won the game 4 tries to 1.

Having won both of their group games, Redland were into the final against Bristol Brunel Academy, who had experienced similar success against the teams they had played. This was a very close contest with both teams playing well. Hugo, Toby and Ollie were excellent at driving the Bristol Brunel team back into their half, and with support from Gabriel and Alex we were able to maintain possession. The pressure told as Redland went 2 tries up and looked comfortable for their lead. Bristol Brunel scored in the second half with only a few minutes remaining making it a tense finish to the match. Redland remained solid in their defence. Good tackling from Kyle and Matthew stopped Brunel’s attacks, and even as the final came to a close Redland still threatened with Keatley and Matthew both running at the opposition and forcing them back. Final score 2-1 to Redland. The whole squad played extremely well and can be proud of their achievement as this was the first time they had been put together as a team.
