Year 7 Students Visit Amitabha Buddhist Centre

During this term Year 7 students have been visiting the Amitabha Buddhist Centre on the Gloucester Road as part of their humanities curriculum.

Students have been working with Buddhist monks and a nun in their mediation room to experience mindfulness activities and to hear about the practice of modern Buddhism and its’ central tenets.

Comments from the students:

“It is really interesting to hear an actual Buddhist monk and nun giving their views on Buddhism.”

“It was cool to hear proper Buddhists answering your questions.”

“It was good to find out what all the paintings and statues represented”.

The centre has very beautiful statues and paintings and many of the students enjoyed looking at these. After the visit students were able to further explore Buddhism in their lessons using artefacts that had been donated to the RE department by FORGS.
