Year 8 Public Speaking Competition Results

Well done to all our Year 8 speakers who entered the recent Year 8 Public Speaking Competition and in particular, congratulations go to the winning team made up of Nellie, Charlotte and Natasha. They won the competition with their excellent speech on footballer’s wages. The question posed by the team was ‘Should soldiers be paid footballers wages?’

They posed some excellent questions and put forward a compelling argument.

The runners up were Bethan and Marianne, who tackled the subject of ‘The value of home learning’. Third place went to Luke, Jay and Nick and they looked at ‘Free education for all’.

All the teams that entered worked very hard and tackled topics relevant to them today, in addition to posing interesting questions and making persuasive arguments about their subject choice.

Ms Garland, Deputy Headteacher, who had the honour of judging the competition for the third year running stated “The students excelled; the standard of entries has risen dramatically this year and I’m really hopeful that students will consider entering the Youth Speaks Rotary Club Competition that is organised annually. The speeches we have heard tonight would be very worthy competitors in any Bristol-wide competition. Well done!”
